A weekend at the Biltmore Estate, pt. 2
After our “Biltmore House Revealed Tour” we shared a quick bite and an iced latte from The Bake Shop in the stable area next to the house. We walked around the grounds for a few more minutes watching a big storm roll in over the mountains, before running inside the house again just in time for the down pour. We picked up headsets for an audio guided tour that showcased the current theme of A Vanderbilt House Party Exhibition. Historical figures and workers guided us through the house via audio as they all prepared for a large house party, with sound effects and stories that brought the home and family and costumes to life as you listened in.
Currently each costume on display is a reproduction of clothing or jewelry from the Vanderbilts’ own wardrobes seen in photographs, which is mesmerizing to see in person. And for those Downton Abbey lovers like us, it’s especially exciting because the shows’ costumer helped recreate these pieces with actual vintage fabrics and jewels from the time period. A fashion dream.
A few hours later we hopped onto the shuttle again to take us back to Antler Hill Village to have a drink and share a charcuterie board at Wine Bar at the Winery before our late dinner reservations. I did a sparkling wine tasting and Christian had a tasting of reserve reds, which are some of his most favorite Biltmore Wines. On warmer days the bar will often keep the long row of window-doors open to the walkway, and it’s just one of the more tucked away gems of Antler Hill Village that we love to cozy up at.
We freshened up for dinner and made our way down to The Dining Room that showcases expertly prepared cuisine emphasizing a field-to-table program, and surely one of the most elegant places we’ve ever dined. After a beautiful meal we sat back with our decaf cappuccinos, already reminiscing back through our trip so far. Our waitress generously brought out a few extra desserts because she knew we were having trouble deciding on just one, and again Christian and I looked at each other and I sighed, “I love this place.”
Thankfully I get to share one more full day with you all! And even the perfect weekend itinerary that will help you easily create the kind of magical experience we had this time.
Until then, re-live this trip via my Insta-Stories Highlight!
I have been hosted by Biltmore for this post, but my opinions are my own.
